Journal Citation Reports
ISI defines this as "Journal performance metrics offer a systematic, objective means to critically evaluate the world's leading journals
- Delivers quantifiable statistical information based on citation data
- Helps determine a publication’s impact and influence in the global research community
- Includes journal and category data"
Journal Impact Factor = Cites to recent articles/ Number of recent articles
Journal Immediacy Index =Cites to current articles/ Number of current articles
Journal Cited Half-Life: The cited half-life for the journal is the median age of its articles cited in the current JCR year. Half of the citations to the journal are to articles published within the cited half-life.
Cited Journal Graph: This graph shows the distribution by cited year of citations to articles published in the journal
Journal Citing Half-Life: The citing half-life for the journal is the median age of the articles the journal cited in the current JCR year. Half of the citations in the journal are to articles published within the citing half-life.
Citing Journal Graph: This graph shows the distribution by cited year of citations from current-year articles in the journal
Journal Citation Reports Source Data: The Source Data Table shows the number of citable items in the the JCR year. Citable items are further divided into articles (i.e., research articles) and reviews.
These definitions are all taken from ISI Web of Knowledge database.
Scholar Impact: You can search on specific scholars (or yourself) in ISI Web of Knowledge.
Type in a scholars' name - in this example, it is Gardner,H* (education)
Notice, the intial sort is by 'most recent' not by 'most cited.' Additionaly, there are some false hits, as there are multiple scholars named Gardner. You will have to refine by field to find the information for the correct Gardner.
Here we have used the refining option to find a Gardner who has published in the field of Psychology.
Here we can see further information on this article, and how many times it has been cited.
OR You can click on Web of Science, and then you can do a Cited Reference Search. This allows you to find the articles that cite a person's work . There is also an 'Author Search' option.
The Author Search option can be very useful when there are multiple scholars with similar names. This option allows you to narrow by name, by specialization and by institution.
